As you drive into Bay Harbor from U.S. 31, you’ll quickly notice the beautiful view of Lake Michigan and the hotels that crease the skyline, but now there’s an added vision: The Great Lakes Center for the Arts. The shell is fast becoming a building with a future as bright and audacious as the performers it will attract.
During the construction, have some fun with the view. Remember the days in the sandbox? Remember the cranes, the front loaders, dump trucks, and bulldozers? That’s the romance of watching the scene.
“It’s exciting to watch the progress out the window,” notes Beth Anne Eckerle, Marketing Director for the Center.
It’s also fun. Crews are rigging and welding while others move mountains of earth and still more folks study construction drawings and point, all with accompanying hardhats illuminating a Lego town being built with Tonka trucks.
Beyond the wonderful expectations of what the Center will bring to Bay Harbor homes and surrounding condo communities, there’s always joy in the anticipation. There’s always joy in the concept as it comes to fruition. There will be a stage for theater, dance, music, movies, and even intellectual dialogue. The Rooftop Terrace will offer extraordinary viewing of the surrounding landscape, and the Donor Lounge will be available for pre- and post-cocktails and refreshments.
If you’re not lucky enough to have property within Bay Harbor proper, there’s ample parking for those driving in from Walloon Lake, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, or perhaps as far away as Burt Lake.
“We are building excitement for the 2018 premier summer season programming,” says Eckerle.
One can be assured that the timeline is on schedule. Drive up and dream. Oh, and it’s okay to smile while you watch.
